Himegyaru Guidelines/info

November 12th, 2007 (12:21 pm)

I know I've already posted info on what Himegyaru is, which we all know by now is princess style, and looking like a princess.

Here's a few general tips on Himegyaru, based on what I've seen on various fashion brand websites(IE: Liz Lisa, Jesus Diamante ), info I've read on various sites that have hime fashion descriptions, and info a hime friend gave me.

Clothes Tips

1) From what I've noticed, it seems most dresses and skirts are A-line, so look for that.
2) Flowers, ruffles, bows, lace, cinching, and fur (real or faux). All acceptable!
--2a) Flowers: You don't want too many flowers, or BIG flowers everywhere. If there's bigger flowers, you want them confined to one specific area. IE: A large rose on the front, flowers on the top. However, medium sized and smaller flowers are great even if everywhere, but you do want them to have good spacing.
--2b) Ruffles: Again, as with flowers, you don't want it everywhere. Like, ruffles on the skirt of the dress, or maybe some on the sleeves. But not the ENTIRE dress ruffled.
--2c) Bows: As with flowers and ruffles, not everywhere. Like a bow on each sleeve, or one on the chest, or both.
--2d) Lace: Lace is kind of an exception to the general rule I've seen with flowers/bows/ruffles. Lace, is even less than flowers/bows/ruffles. You just want it on the edges
--2e) Cinching: In general, try to keep cinching to a bare minimum. Like a little on the skirt.
--2f) Fur (real or faux): Again, try keeping fur to a bare minimum. You don't want a totally fur coat, try something with just fur around the collar and sleeves, and maybe the hem.
3) Leopard print, but in girly colors, or toned down to where it's barely seen.

Shoes

Anything girly is acceptable! But, you need something high heeled. Hime almost always wear high heels. Stylettos are even more girly. Try to aim for shoes with flowers, glitter, or bows. But as with the clothes, but even more so with shoes, keep the flowers and bows to a minimum! With boots: Boots with bows or flowers are great. Plain LONG boots are great too. Try to avoid slouch boots and boots of that sort. Boots are almost always styletto heeled or pump heeled with hime.

Accessories

Try to find the girliest pretty accessories you can find. If you can't, a plain purse is OK. But try to aim for purses with flowers and bows, or hearts. Also, try to aim for a purse with a chain strap rather than a fabric strap, unless it's a large purse.

Hair Accessories

Try looking at claire's for girly hair accessories, and tiaras. They sell stuff fairly cheap. Try sticking to the most girly you can find however. Hair accessories with bows, flowers, or jewels are best.

Jewelry

A lot of jewelry may look hime acceptable, but is it really? You want hearts, bows, flowers, crowns. A string of pearls with a ribbon bow on it is great. Or a string of pearls with a faux rose.

Makeup

black Liner, black mascara, foundation, maybe a small touch of neutral shadow. Pink/peach blush. Pink/peach lipgloss/lipstick, but a pale pink/peach. Trim your eyebrows into a thin arch shape. If you don't have long, thick, plush lashes, I recommend getting a set of false lashes.

Hair

You don't ALWAYS need the bouffant/beehive that you see lots of hime with. As long as your hair is curly and volumized it's fine, but it should look girly and princessy of course, since that's the whole point of himegyaru.

Rules

You may be wondering are certain things acceptable or not. Since it's all about looking like a princess, here are some things that are NOT acceptable:

1) Any visible piercings aside from your ears. This is sort of a given. For example: Tongue, nose, surface piercings, lip, eyebrow.
2) Any visible tattoos.
3) Straight hair, unless it's in an updo.

That's about all I can think of right now. If there's anything you see missing, feel free to let me know. I hope you all enjoy this handbook, I try to include everything I can. If your not sure what I mean by some things regarding clothes/accessories/shoes, go look at Liz Lisa or Jesus Diamante.

What is himegyaru exactly?

October 30th, 2007 (07:07 pm)

Himegyaru is about looking like a princess and looking pretty. The word "hime" in himegyaru is the Japanese word for princess. In serious himegyaru it is almost required that you do everything possible to look like a princess. With pretty dresses or tops and skirts, a princess like hairdo (IE: Minibeehives, etc.), pretty jewelry, etc. Heels are almost always requred Casual himegyaru is more lax, you can wear like a pretty cami top with lace or something girly/princess like on it, and a pair of jeans or a regular skirt.

If you are interested in SERIOUS himegyaru, but aren't sure what exactly to do, I recommend that you look at the brand Jesus Diamante. http://www.jesusdiamante.com

If you are interested in Casual himegyaru, I recommend that you look at Liz Lisa and Tralala.

Also, try looking at an Ageha magazine or Ageha magazine scans.

Note: Websites are in Japanese but you really need to just look at the clothes.
